SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)- The ruling for a teen convicted of the stabbing death of a Lanphier High School student in 2021 has been reversed and vacated by the Fourth District Appellate Court for Illinois.Â
On Tuesday, new court records stated that the county had improperly transferred the suspect's case from juvenile court to adult criminal court. As a result, the case is being sent back to Sangamon County juvenile court.
In February 2023, a Sangamon County Judge found the teen girl guilty on multiple adult charges, including three charges of first-degree murder (Class M), one count of attempted first degree murder (Class X), three charges of aggravated battery (Class 3), and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (Class 4).
She was sentenced in April 2023, to 43 years for the stabbing death of Pierre Scott Jr.
WAND News has chosen not to identify the suspect due to her age.
